understanding Polish policy documents, limits and exclusions.
Before recommending a solution, I will ask about your situation, the risks you want to insure and the protection you may already have through your employer or the Polish social security system.

The term “disability insurance” can be confusing because it does not identify one specific type of insurance in Poland.
Depending on your needs, it may refer to four different forms of protection:
benefits and disability pensions provided by the Polish Social Insurance Institution — ZUS;
private income protection in the event of temporary illness or an accident;
insurance covering permanent inability to work in your own occupation or at all in any occupation;
disability, serious illness or accident benefits added to a life insurance policy.
These solutions serve different purposes. Having one of them does not necessarily mean that the other risks are covered.
If you are employed or pay the appropriate social insurance contributions in Poland, you may be entitled to statutory benefits from ZUS.
A sickness benefit is intended to replace part of your income during a temporary inability to work. A disability pension may be available when your ability to work is lost for a longer period and the statutory requirements are met.
The amount and availability of these benefits depend on factors such as:
your form of employment or business activity;
whether sickness insurance contributions are being paid;
the contribution assessment basis;
your insurance history;
the medical assessment and statutory eligibility requirements.
ZUS benefits should therefore be calculated individually. They should not be confused with a private income protection policy.
Official information about Polish social security benefits is available on the English-language ZUS website.
Private income protection is designed for people whose earnings depend mainly on their personal ability to work.
Depending on the policy, it may provide a monthly benefit if an illness or accident temporarily prevents you from performing your occupation. It can be particularly relevant for:
doctors, dentists and other medical professionals;
IT consultants and other independent specialists;
architects, engineers and lawyers;
tradespeople and craftspeople;
sole traders and business owners who personally generate their income;
people working under B2B or civil-law contracts.
The benefit, waiting period and maximum payment period depend on the selected policy. The insurer may also examine your occupation, health, age and documented income before accepting the risk.
A policy may contain an “own occupation” definition. This can be important when a medical condition prevents you from performing your specific profession even though you may still be physically capable of doing another type of work.
For example, a hand injury may have a very different financial impact on a surgeon, dentist, physiotherapist or craftsperson than on someone working mainly at a desk.
Private income protection is intended to supplement your financial security. It does not automatically replace ZUS or cover every reason for a reduction in earnings.
Temporary incapacity and permanent disability are not the same risk.
Some insurance solutions may provide a lump-sum benefit or longer-term financial support if an illness or accident permanently prevents the insured person from performing their profession. The precise definition of disability is crucial.
Before choosing a policy, you should check:
whether the policy refers to your own occupation or any occupation;
whether partial disability is covered;
how permanent incapacity is assessed;
whether the benefit is paid as a lump sum or monthly payment;
whether pre-existing medical conditions are excluded;
whether the cover applies in Poland and abroad;
how long the insurer may pay the benefit;
what medical and financial documents will be required.
The same medical diagnosis may be assessed differently under different policy wordings. For this reason, comparing only the premium is rarely sufficient.
Life insurance may include additional benefits for:
permanent disability;
serious illness;
permanent injury following an accident;
hospital treatment;
surgery;
inability to live independently;
death resulting from illness or an accident.
These are usually fixed benefits defined in the policy. They are not necessarily calculated according to your actual monthly income.
A life insurance benefit can help cover immediate expenses or support a family, while income protection is generally intended to replace part of lost earnings. In many cases, the two types of protection can complement each other.
When analysing income protection, the starting point should be your actual financial gap.
Consider:
your average monthly income;
essential household and business expenses;
the amount you could receive from ZUS or your employer;
your available savings;
how long those savings would last;
any existing group or individual insurance;
the period for which you would need a private monthly benefit.
My Polish-language income protection calculator helps estimate the difference between your monthly expenses and the income available during an inability to work. The calculation does not constitute an insurance offer and does not calculate your individual ZUS entitlement.
After establishing the income gap, we can compare suitable solutions available from the insurers with which I work. The comparison may include:
temporary inability to work due to illness;
temporary inability to work following an accident;
permanent inability to perform your profession;
waiting periods before benefits begin;
the maximum benefit period;
exclusions and pre-existing medical conditions;
the method of documenting income;
territorial scope;
optional benefits for treatment, hospitalisation or rehabilitation.
Discuss income protection in English
Life insurance is primarily intended to provide financial support to designated beneficiaries if the insured person dies. Depending on the selected policy, it may also include protection for serious illness, disability, hospitalisation or medical treatment.
It may be worth considering if:
your family depends on your income;
you have a mortgage or other significant liabilities;
you want to provide funds for your children;
your business depends on you or another key person;
you want access to additional serious-illness benefits;
you are interested in treatment or a second medical opinion abroad.
Health insurance serves a different purpose. It may provide access to private consultations, diagnostic tests and other medical services within a defined network and scope.
Before purchasing either type of policy, it is important to check:
who is insured and who receives the benefit;
the sum insured;
waiting periods;
medical questionnaires and underwriting;
territorial limits;
exclusions;
whether benefits overlap with existing employer coverage;
the language in which the contractual documents are issued.

Home insurance in Poland may cover the building, permanent fixtures and household contents. The available protection depends on whether you own or rent the property and on the selected policy.
The cover may include:
fire, water damage and severe weather;
damage to walls and permanent fixtures;
household contents;
theft or burglary;
glass and other fragile items;
home assistance;
personal liability in everyday life;
legal protection;
additional risks related to rented property.
Tenants, owners and landlords have different insurance needs. A landlord’s policy may not protect all of a tenant’s belongings, while a tenant’s policy will not normally replace insurance for the building itself.
When comparing home policies, the sum insured, valuation method, limits and exclusions matter more than the product name alone.
Online purchase may be available for selected products. Where it is available, I can explain the main choices before you continue to the insurer’s purchasing process.
Ask about home or apartment insurance
Running a business in Poland creates risks that are not normally covered by personal insurance.
Depending on your profession and business model, relevant insurance may include:
professional indemnity insurance;
public and general liability insurance;
medical malpractice or professional liability;
income protection for the person generating the business income;
company property and equipment insurance;
cyber and data protection insurance;
directors’ and officers’ liability insurance;
tax and legal protection;
trade credit insurance;
insurance guarantees;
employee life, health and accident insurance.
For sole traders and small companies, it is especially important to distinguish between personal income and company revenue.
Income protection normally protects the insured person’s documented earnings. It does not automatically cover a fall in company turnover, ongoing employee salaries, rent or other operating expenses. Separate business interruption or company insurance may be needed for those risks.
The correct solution depends on your profession, contracts, clients, revenue structure and existing obligations.
Request a business insurance consultation
You can describe your situation in English — for example your occupation, income, family, property or business activity and the risk that concerns you.
Before a recommendation is prepared, I will carry out an analysis of your insurance needs. This helps identify what should be insured, which risks are most important and whether you already have relevant protection.
Where possible, I will compare suitable solutions from insurers whose products I can distribute. The comparison will focus on scope, definitions, limits, waiting periods, exclusions and claim requirements — not only on the premium.
You will receive the relevant product information and insurance terms before purchasing. Insurance contracts and policy documents may be issued in Polish, depending on the insurer. I can explain their key provisions in English, but the original contractual wording remains legally binding.
Depending on the product, the policy may be concluded through an agent, remotely or through an insurer’s online purchasing system. I can also help you identify the correct procedure if you need to notify the insurer of a claim.
REMEMBER: using independent agent gives you the opporutunity to get best offer available on the market for you.
Insurance terminology does not always translate directly between countries.
Words such as “disability”, “income protection”, “health insurance” and “liability insurance” can refer to different benefits, legal requirements and policy definitions in Poland.
My role is to help you:
identify the risk you actually want to insure;
understand the difference between statutory and private protection;
compare available policy definitions and exclusions;
avoid relying only on a product name or headline price;
choose an appropriate application and purchasing process;
communicate with the insurer more confidently.
I am an insurance agent based in Warsaw, in the Mokotów district.
Consultations can also be conducted remotely for clients living or working elsewhere in Poland.
No. ZUS benefits are part of the statutory social security system. Private insurance is based on a separate contract with an insurer. Eligibility, definitions and benefit calculations are different.
Some income protection policies may pay a monthly benefit during a covered inability to work. The amount, waiting period, duration and causes covered depend on the policy and individual underwriting.
Potentially, yes. The insurer will usually require information about your occupation, health and documented income. Availability and conditions differ between professions and products.
No. Temporary inability to work normally refers to a period during which you are expected to recover. Permanent disability refers to a long-term or irreversible loss of ability, assessed under the definition contained in the policy.
Yes, although the contractual documents may be issued in Polish. I can conduct the needs analysis and explain the available options in English. You should receive and understand the policy terms before making a decision.
Selected products may be purchased online through an insurer’s system. Other types of insurance require an application, medical or financial assessment, or an individually prepared offer.
Some policies offer worldwide protection, while others contain territorial restrictions. Residence, occupation, travel and the country in which an event occurs may affect the cover. This must be checked in the specific policy wording.
The premium may depend on age, health, occupation, income, sum insured, scope, waiting period and selected options. A reliable price can only be provided after these details have been established.
If you live or work in Poland and need help understanding your insurance options, send me a short message in English.
Please include:
the type of insurance you are interested in;
your occupation or business activity;
whether you live in Warsaw or another part of Poland;
your preferred method of contact;
a convenient time for a conversation.
Do not send detailed medical records through the initial contact form. If health information is required, I will explain the insurer’s appropriate and secure application procedure.

This page provides general information and does not constitute an insurance offer, a guarantee of cover or an individual recommendation.
The availability, scope, premium, waiting periods, exclusions and benefit amounts depend on the selected insurer, policy wording and individual assessment. Before purchasing insurance, you should read the applicable insurance terms, product information document and other contractual documents.
Information about ZUS is general. Individual entitlement to statutory benefits should be verified directly with ZUS or an appropriately qualified adviser.
